Pratt & Whitney Boosts Engine Supply as Airbus Aims for 2025 Delivery Target
Airbus SE (EADSY) remains on track to meet its 2025 delivery goal of 820 jets, thanks to improved engine supply from Pratt & Whitney. The engine manufacturer confirmed its output aligns with Airbus' production plans through 2025, with current shipments allocated for next year's assembly lines. This development provides Airbus with greater visibility to achieve its annual target.
The aerospace giant has adopted a stopgap measure in recent months, assembling some aircraft without engines and storing them as gliders. These airframes will be fitted with engines later this year as components become available. While Airbus acknowledges the tight production schedule, executives maintain confidence in their delivery timeline, noting that most handovers typically occur in the latter half of the year.
Shares of EADSY dipped 1.95% to $59.70 on Friday, despite posting a 52% year-to-date gain. The stock movement reflects ongoing market sensitivity to supply chain challenges in the aerospace sector.
Pratt & Whitney continues to address quality issues related to metal powder in its geared turbofan engines, which previously forced airlines to ground aircraft for part replacements. These disruptions had created Ripple effects across the supply chain, slowing new jet deliveries industry-wide.
